Brittany & Joe’s Grand Rapids Downtown Market Wedding was unforgettable! On a fantastic September day, the Downtown Market’s modern greenhouse brought a South Carolina vibe to Michigan. As a destination wedding photographer, I was thrilled to capture this day that truly reflected Brittany and Joe’s style, love, and personality.
I first met Brittany back in 2021 when I photographed her brother’s wedding in Hilton Head, and we immediately hit it off. When she got engaged to Joe on Tybee Island this past April, I was so excited to get the call from her asking if I’d be part of their wedding journey. From that call, it was clear Brittany knew precisely the feel she wanted: a non-traditional, tropical vacation setting, yet in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. The Downtown Market’s Greenhouse, with its floor-to-ceiling glass, lush botanicals, and sleek, modern decor, was the perfect backdrop for their special day.
The day started with Brittany and her bridesmaids getting ready in elegant sage-green dresses, each one styled slightly differently but matching perfectly in that beautiful soft green shade. Brittany’s bouquet was a gorgeous mix of greenery, white florals, and hints of peachy orange — the perfect touch for the beginning of fall. The delicate ribbon tied around her bouquet added a sweet touch. Brittany and Joe did a first look at a rooftop overlooking the cityscape. The excitement between them was contagious as they shared that first private moment together. They snuck in a few kisses and taking in the moment before heading to the ceremony.
The Garden Room hosted the ceremony, and it felt like stepping into a tropical greenhouse. It was the perfect balance of cozy and open, with sunlight streaming through the glass walls. The altar, adorned with greenery and florals that tied in perfectly with Brittany’s bouquet, created a stunning focal point for Brittany & Joe to say their vows.
After the ceremony, they took a moment to soak it all in with a celebratory drink on the rooftop. Their joy was clear, and the cityscape added a modern touch to their wedding photos. It was a little pocket of time for them before joining their guests for the celebration that awaited downstairs.
The reception was equally stunning, with tables covered in crisp white linens and bud vases with vibrant florals that brought in the warmth and greenery to the Grand Rapids Downtown Market Wedding. The open, airy feel of the Downtown Market’s Greenhouse offered breathtaking views and a seamless transition from ceremony to celebration. After Brittany and Joe’s heartfelt first dance and some touching toasts from friends and family, it was time for cake-cutting and dancing! Their guests filled the dance floor, and the energy was electric as they came ready to celebrate!
One of my favorite parts of the night was sneaking Brittany and Joe away for some final rooftop portraits. The golden evening light gave that warm, romantic glow. It’s the quiet moments after the celebration that capture the love and connection between a couple.
